Metamorphosis
By Marecar Veniegas
Lighted by the shining sunlight
Rising in the leaf of life
Hissing and crawling in the midnight
The day has come cut by knife.
Longing to come out week after week
Covered in a sheer blanket sleeve
Trying not to be weak
At last out in the crib.
Finally got her freedom
Flew in a flash of lightning
Found happiness and a drop of wisdom
Looking back and find ain’t frightening.
Broken wings and dusty blue
Thoughtful deeds that lead
Old and shabby but true
A colorful world indeed.
Marecar Veniegas was born and residing in the Philippines for fifteen years already. She started writing when she was eleven and currently in Grade 9. I wrote Metamorphosis few months ago in my secret journal while inside a class and not paying attention to what's my teacher's saying. I just thought of things like people as a butterfly that's why it's called Metamorphosis, meaning "transformation or changes" like what it is called in a butterfly's life cycle. It means about being free and having the freedom we wanted for so long after all those hardships as a caterpillar. We aim for freedom and joy, yet it takes time to get there. We can get things when we are ready for it. Time will tell.
